Velm - Steindechsel
sketchfab
This ancient carpenter's tool was discovered during fieldwork in the area of the Neolithic ring ditch site at Velm (Himberg municipality). The stone flake was made from green serpentinite and measures approximately 9 x 6 x 3 cm. Ring ditch sites are a phenomenon of the Middle Neolithic period (4900 - 4500 BC) and occur frequently in Hungarian, Austrian, Bohemian, and eastern German lowlands. The Velm ring ditch site has been intensively investigated over the past few years by the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Archaeological Prospection and Virtual Archaeology using non-destructive methods and is now considered one of the best-researched sites in Austria.
