Velleman vertex3d K8400 extruder upgrade - bowden tip
cults3d
I firmly believe that after extensive use, the vertex k8400 requires significant upgrades on the extruder/bowden side. Firstly, it is essential to shorten the bowden and reposition the extruder as demonstrated by Hardbats. Secondly, a notable improvement in filament loading can be achieved thanks to user input. In my opinion, taking it a step further involves adding a section of bowden inside the extruder, near the gears, to minimize filament movement, particularly with flex filaments. To this end, I modified the Blackwolfin upgrade using Blender. Please note that I hope you don't mind, Blackwolfn. I positioned a pipe where the bowden would fit, creating a compatible slot in the second half as seen in the pictures. The length of the bowden section needs to be trimmed accordingly and by eye, as shown in the images. These two halves are referred to as Base_1 and Top_1. As an additional modification, I created a second set of components with an enlarged nut hole for those who may want to replace the bowden clip with one featuring a larger nut (9.8 mm instead of 7.8 mm, as seen in the pictures). If necessary, the hole for the bowden clip on top of the extruder should be drilled slightly, similar to the other holes in the two halves. These modified components are named Base_2 and Top_2. As you can see, the Tops need to be flipped for printing. It may also be beneficial to print an additional extruder in case one is needed. If desired, I can provide the Blender file for further editing.
