Velleman Vertex K8400 Cover
prusaprinters
Hey Guys, simply put there was too much dust accumulating in my printer so I decided to add a cover to it. While there are already many approaches to this topic on Thingiverse, I wanted to do my own one and of course share it with all of you! Please note that I added a second source for my Remix: LuckyLuzz Design is very similar to mine (he uses the original Velleman parts). I recommend his approach to lasercut the panels, I had a tough time getting mine in shape. I will add more files and photos in the future (masks for the cutouts and shots of the cover itself) while I progress through the project. For now only the corner files are available! Edits: Take a look at LuckyLuzz Design, he has made some very good fitting covers to the remaining holes During the design review process my friend Kai suggested to fixate the top panel with M5 screws instead of using magnets so the cover can be removed from the printer in a single step. I thus build another variant of the corner that will be used on top. I added the CORNER_MOD_FIX to my design to cover the not-so-good-looking part of the top corner to have the M5 screws not directly in contact with the poly carbonate design considerations because the printer looked somehow unfinished without the additional parts I added a drawing with measurements and two STL files for the cutouts on the polycarbonate panels Print Settings Printer: Velleman Vertex K8400 Rafts: No Supports: Yes Resolution: 0.2mm Infill: 30% Notes: You will need to print eight corners: four bottom and four top corners for the cover. I had some issues with removing the supports from the top corner print, just make sure the surface is not too rough anymore, it won't be visible in the end after putting the CORNER\_MOD\_FIX on the top corners. Post-Printing Remove Support Glue 8mm x 3mm cylindric magnet to bottom of the hole In addition you need acrylic glass or polycarbonate (which I recommend). You need four 350mmx200mm panels (left, right, front, back) and one 350x350mm panel (top) and cut them to fit the printers shape. Each side panel in addition needs eight holes drilled (be careful!) while the top panel only needs five. How I Designed This Remix in Designspark Mechanical My idea was to fixate the cover magnetically to the printer housing (targeting the M5 screws on top of it). I therefore took the orignial LARGE_CORNER.stl provided by Velleman and made some adjustments. * Importing into Designspark Mechanical * Cut away the bottom part with the curvature For bottom corner Change hole diameter to 9mm for head of M5 screw and 8mm for magnet For top corner Raise outer corner (it will be used to center the polycarbonate panel) Remove original hole and add a M5 hole + nut hole instead. For fix top corner remodelled removed the part for the side screws shrinked sides to +-1mm Category: 3D Printer Parts
