Velleman K8200 Printed Circuit Board Cover with Fan
thingiverse
The original PCB cover from Velleman only covers the top of the board, leading to overheating issues with motor driving components. To fix this, a full cover has been designed that accommodates a 40mm cooling fan, similar to the one included in the printer. PLA is recommended for the material, and some users have opted to externally mount the fan, despite the box being designed for internal mounting. The cover was made using Repetier Host V0.90C with black 3mm PLA, at a layer thickness of 0.2mm. It was printed with solid fill, a linear fill pattern, and an extrude temperature of 200 degrees. To print, the cover must be rotated to the top down position on blue tape-covered bed set at 50 degrees. Some minor trimming and hole clearing may be necessary after slicing. The reset function is activated through a small hole "R" using a straightened length of 3mm PLA as a pushrod. Power for the fan can be taken from the lower two pins of the unused connector holes near the reset switch, which provides 12v. The cover attaches to the same bosses as the PCB but discards the spacers and washers. Two small self-tapping screws hold the cover on one side while it latches onto the PCB on the other side. The base was widened for better support, and adjustments to the cable entry slots may be needed depending on wiring setup. Solidworks drawings are available for reference.
