People don't use camera tripods as speaker stands more often because they simply haven't thought of a mounting plate that allows a Velbon tripod to be used for this purpose using its standard Velbon quick-release. The plate is designed to be attached to the speaker using either double-sided tape or screws with a major diameter of 3-5mm, making it ideal for moderately heavy speakers like mine. If you're interested in trying out this hack on your own camera tripod, just make sure to check if it will fit before proceeding!
