Vekoma Style Crosstie Track 1.75mm filament
thingiverse
ITEMS NEEDED: 1.75mm filament, 2mm ID 4mm OD flexible tubing (both readily available on Amazon). This is a fundamental track crosstie design for a Vekoma-style coaster, suitable for boomerangs, SLCs, standard sit-down coasters, and most of Vekoma's older models. To build an entire coaster, you may need up to 200-250 crossties, but printing them as needed will minimize waste. Begin by using the 1.75mm filament, inserting it into the two smaller notches on the bottom without difficulty. If the print quality is good, simply snap or slide it in place. Assemble as many of these crossties as you printed and then attach the tubing to the top of the track. Note that it might initially resist sticking but with a little hot glue or a simple 3D-printed harness, it will stay securely in place. At this point, cut off any excess filament or tubing, or continue printing crossties for longer sections of track. From here, you can twist, turn, or bend the track in any direction you like. With the classic Vekoma SLC-style trains, they'll run smoothly as long as you keep the inner side of the crosstie clean and free of residue, stringing, or bumps. I'm also working on support structures for the coaster itself. Feel free to modify this design to suit your needs, upscale it if desired for a more realistic model, but be aware that excessive upsizing may require using tubing both for the rails and spine.
