Veiled Head of a Woman at The Louvre, Paris
myminifactory
The hair on this marble bust of a woman is styled as thick curls, similar to that of a sculpture found next to it in The Louvre (also archived on Scan The World!), cascading down below a veil that rests atop her head and trails behind. It's suggested that the woman was adorned with earrings due to the holes visible in her earlobes. The reverse side of this bust is not detailed, and no body has been found, suggesting it may have been attached to a wall or used in a funerary setting. This female bust wears a veil forming a fold above the skull following a widespread pattern dating back to 350 BC, reminiscent of the Demeter of Cnidus at the British Museum, part of the Scan The World Archive. This likeness has sometimes led to speculation that this is a variant head. However, a brief examination of the work may indicate it originally belonged to a funeral effigy or high relief decoration, in which case it was embedded. This object forms part of "Scan The World". Scan The World is a non-profit initiative launched by MyMiniFactory, which aims to create a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks, and landmarks from around the globe for public access.
