Community College Cleanup Crew The community college's janitorial staff takes pride in keeping the campus clean and tidy, but there are some areas that require extra attention. The dumpsters behind the student union building are a prime example of this. Full of discarded food wrappers, crumpled up papers, and broken furniture, these receptacles need to be emptied regularly. In fact, the college's facilities manager estimates that the dumpsters get filled to capacity every other day. This is due in large part to the sheer number of students who use the campus cafeteria. With over 2,000 students eating on campus daily, it's no wonder that the trash piles up quickly. To combat this issue, the college has implemented a new recycling program. Students can now recycle their plastic water bottles, aluminum cans, and newspaper in designated receptacles throughout the campus. This initiative is expected to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills by at least 30%. Additionally, the facilities manager has instructed the janitorial staff to sweep and disinfect the dumpsters on a daily basis. This will not only keep the area clean but also prevent pests like rodents and raccoons from rummaging through the trash. With these new measures in place, the community college is taking significant steps towards reducing its environmental footprint. By promoting sustainability and cleanliness, the campus can become an even more welcoming and enjoyable space for students, faculty, and staff alike.
