Setting Up V-Ray Rendering with Materials Set Up to work with 3ds max and VB-R files. The material system is only supported within 3ds Max files or exported into FBX formats. Exported materials from Max are also retained if re-imported via an FBX export. However, upon rendering other scene files in V-Ray that do not originate from Max, including FBX scenes imported by FBX loader as well as models created in OBJ or DAE formats that use materials directly attached to the scene’s model geometry. To ensure your textures display accurately for a 3D scene stored and viewed outside of max in different formats (i.e. exported models like FBX) - we've designed these Vray and texture related features: A centralized storage container within which are housed all the material specific images known as 'textures'. Each unique VB set comes packed with a single pre-configured master archive. Named, “master” this one master max zip will retain within its bounds the essential images of the associated product scene it represents when exported for distribution on multiple different platforms, namely: - FBX export. - 3ds format import into other third-party viewers as well like DWG/DXF and OBJ, and so on, each having the advantage being able to support direct material import. For rendering a texture within this package (of say FBX), or rather exporting models not produced by Max onto platforms compatible but not supporting direct native import via Material library loading mechanism - one must re-attach them through user manual operation; which means after transferring to another non-compatible software environments those aforementioned texture components must individually applied again in their proper respective placements in said file so that desired effects display upon opening viewer. This rule, in effect requires end-users actively manage these elements throughout lifecycle across the full product distribution ecosystem as a complete package of images necessary and correct placement - with no automated feature assisting this transfer from native scene container over different output environments outside standard compatible FBX exchange. Note all these mentioned individual component file for V-Ray material use storage can be viewed from top level within its corresponding root path in the master max zip, or when viewing any imported or externally exported 3ds model. The folder which serves as centralized data storage system houses various scene textures to match with a designated object asset from original creation platform source – making quick work managing assets & resources across multiple file types supported on this rendering system like (e.g OBJ models using native DAE materials not coming originally max); thus all material-related components - in essence everything under master’s directory- stays right at user fingertips upon initial transfer over to non native rendering engines; giving immediate & intuitive usability during overall Vray texture configuration procedure.
