Vasile Pârvan (28 September 1882 in Perchiu, Huruiești, Bacău - 26 June 1927 in Bucharest) was a prominent Romanian historian and archaeologist. He studied history at the University of Bucharest under the guidance of renowned professor Nicolae Iorga. Pârvan later pursued his studies in Germany, where he earned his Ph.D. with a thesis titled "The Nationality of Merchants in the Roman Empire" in 1909. He then became a respected professor at the University of Bucharest and was elected as a member of the Romanian Academy. His primary areas of interest lay in prehistoric archaeology and classical antiquity, and he led several groundbreaking archaeological excavations, including one at Histria from 1914 to 1927. Pârvan's most notable works include "Getica," which shed light on the political and cultural influence of the Getae-Dacians. He played a pivotal role in establishing Romania's archaeology school and his legacy is honored by institutions bearing his name, such as the Vasile Pârvan Institute of Archaeology and the Vasile Pârvan Museum. Additionally, he launched several publications, including the Ephemeris Dacoromana, Diplomatarium Italicum, and the first series of the Dacia Journal. Tragically, Pârvan's life was cut short on June 26, 1927, when he succumbed to complications from a neglected appendicitis.
