Vasija Capacha con asa de estribo
sketchfab
In 1970, several burials were excavated in the state of Colima belonging to the Capacha cultural complex. In one of them, this singular vase was found as part of the funeral offering. The piece is made up of two communicating pots united by two curved tubes that can serve as handles for manipulating it, commonly known as "stirrup handle." Its peculiar shape, possibly like a pot for boiling, may be associated with the preparation of ritual drinks for specific ceremonies. Recent investigations have located Capacha-style vases as offerings in funerary spaces west of Colima city. Vessels similar to those with stirrup handles were found at Tlatilco in the Mexico Basin, as well as in Ecuador and Peru, which together with other elements are part of cultural interaction between different regions. Get familiar with this piece at the Western Cultures Gallery at MNA.
