vase mode canister (designed for flexcut carving tool set)
prusaprinters
I originally designed this canister to hold my Flexcut carving set. But I quite like this model actually and want to use it for a bunch of other things. It's kinda shaped like a chunky peanut butter jar… and will look like one too if you print it in wood filament!Print settingsThis body and lid of this model print in vase mode. That's really the only settings you really need to know about for the whole thing. But here are the ones I used and I recommend:Body and lidAll parts of the canister itself print in vase mode and use the exact same settings:Spiral vase mode / Spiralize outer contour: turn this on, this is how the whole magic worksLayer height: 0.3mm (not required, but I like printing fast)Line width / Extrusion width: 0.8mm (this is important, and yes, you can do that with a 0.4mm nozzle, just trust me)Bottom thickness / Bottom layers: 1.2mm or 4 layers at 0.3mm layer heightPrinting Temperature: +10 to +15 degrees your usual temperature (I print PolyTerra at 200, but print these vases at 210 to 215 depending on my mood)Flow / Extrusion multiplier: 110% to 120%, or 1.1 o 1.2 (this will help with making the models more watertight, among other things… if you are unsure, add a bigger multiplier)Wall Speed: 30mm/s (you can play with this... slow it down if you have extruder issues)Ironing: not strictly necessary, but you can enable it for a better inside finish of the top and bottom – these are my ironing settings in Cura, you should be able to find matches for these in PrusaSlicer as wellIroning line spacing: 0.4mmIroning flow: 10%Ironing speed: 40mm/sIroning pattern: zig zagInsertIf you are printing this in order to use it for a Flexcut palm tool set, the insert will keep your tools suspended nicely so they don't get damaged. If not, feel free to skip this piece (or bonus points! remix it for your own needs). To slice it, basically just make sure it's fully solid. Here are the settings I used to slice it:Layer height: 0.3mmLine width / Extrusion width: 0.8mmBottom thickness / Bottom layers: the model is 1.5mm total, so just make sure you have enough solid layers… at 0.3mm layer height, that's 5 layersIroning: again, not super necessary, but it makes the top finish really nice. See the ironing settings for the body and lidNotesWhen coming off the printer, the lid should almost feel like it's too tight. That's good! I promise, you can get it on there, and after you open it a coupe of times, it will get easier but still be nice and tight when closed. That's it! Put some stuff in it.The model in the photos was printed on an Elegoo Neptune 2 in Tianse wood filament.
