The Italian Gardens comprise four major basins centered on elaborate rosettes, meticulously carved from Carrara marble, as well as the renowned Portland stone and white marble Tazza Fountain. These are flanked by intricately carved stone statues and urns that showcase five distinct designs: the Swan's breast, a woman's head, a ram's head, a dolphin, and an oval. Located at the source of The Long Water - the river flowing through Kensington Gardens into Hyde Park where it becomes The Serpentine - the Italian Gardens are designated as a site of significant importance by English Heritage, earning them a Grade II listing. Throughout its history, the Italian Gardens have undergone several renovations to preserve their original splendor. Recent restoration efforts took place in 1991 and 2011. In 1991, one vase from each basin was re-carved by an English Heritage stone mason, bringing new life to these iconic structures.
