Varvakeion Athena (Athena Parthenos)
thingiverse
This is a recreation of the Varvakeion Athena displayed at the National Archaeological Museum in Athens, Greece, with me using a very small copy of the iconic goddess to photograph using my trusty Nikon D200. If you're interested in learning more about the legendary Athena Parthenos, I encourage you to follow this link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athena_Parthenos. I utilized an ancient replica of the Athena Parthenos for inspiration - take a look at this impressive virtual exhibition on the official Greek website: http://nam.culture.gr/portal/page/portal/deam/virtual_exhibitions/EAMS/EAMG129. I snapped nearly 200 photos and relied on Agisoft Photoscan to bring this magnificent statuette back to life. While I still have much to learn about creating detailed replicas of intricate items, I felt that my rough rendition of the Athena was good enough to share with fellow enthusiasts who might appreciate its raw charm. Feel free to use, refine or improve upon my humble recreation - I'm sure there are talented artists out there eager to take on this challenge. I'm continually learning how to master the many features of software applications like Photoscan, Meshmixer and Meshlab. Instead of tampering with imperfect models like this one, I'd prefer someone else takes the reins and elevates my creation to its full potential.
