The charger's height in relation to the phone should position it so that the phone always charges. There is some extra space in the phone slot for a thin case. The Micro-USB cable routes through the base of this charger, which is why there's an extra bit of height. Using the cable that comes with the charger worked for me, and you'll likely need to use one about the same size if you want it to fit properly.
