Variation of purge bucket for Geeetech A20M
thingiverse
I was instantly captivated by 3dMakernoob's purge bucket video on Thingiverse (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3362680). As soon as I saw it, I knew I had to try printing and testing it out for myself. However, my Raspberry Pi holder is located on the left side of my printer, which means 3dMakernoob's design wouldn't fit. So, I decided to print the first few layers of his design and reuse the top part to create a bucket that would suit my needs. I still use the "tower at the side" technique for dual-color prints with many tool changes, as it helps minimize filament exposure on my Raspberry Pi case. But now, thanks to 3dMakernoob's purge bucket method, I can also apply it to models with up to ten or slightly more tool changes – like colored scripts in my top layers (which use only five layers high). That's why my modified bucket has a fixed bottom that cannot be removed. To prevent the extruded filament from sticking to the bucket, I use a European 5-cent coin. In my prototype, the coin wasn't perfectly centered, but it still works. When you print this model, make sure to place the coin correctly in the middle. You may need to trim or sand the top of the coin slightly so that it's less than one millimeter above the bucket – just enough for the nozzle to pass by at a distance of 0.1 to 0.3 mm (or use a smaller coin instead). Be cautious when attempting this for the first time, and make small X-steps as you approach the bucket to avoid damaging your printer's nozzle. To ensure everything works smoothly, I usually take a glance at my printer after a tool change using the purge bucket profile and remove the filament if it hasn't fallen. This setup has been working perfectly for my purposes, saving me printing time on the tower for just five tool changes – all thanks to 3dMakernoob's ingenious design!
