Variable strength Clip / Clamp / Clothes Pin

Strong mini clamp or clothespin with gripping teeth. Grip pressure depends on the number of rubber band wraps. With 2 bands, I measured grip pressure to be about 2kg. The version shown holds easily a 4.5kg dumbbell.

The clothespin is 8cm long. There is a 150 micron (.15mm) tolerance around the swivel joint for a perfect fit.

Great to use outdoor in a corrosive environment such as near the sea. Will thus not rust stain clothes.

Can also be used when hiking, on boards, etc.

It's fully symmetric so you can duplicate it in the slicer and print both pieces at once.

I don't believe it scales to smaller size due to tolerance factors. It may scale slightly bigger, but I have not tried.

Any improvements suggestions are welcome. Please post makes and likes if you print it and like it. Thank you.

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

FlashForge

Printer:

Dreamer

Rafts:

No

Supports:

No

Resolution:

0.4mm x 0.2mm height

Infill:

25-50%

Filament: Generic PLA Any

Notes:

Printed with 0.4 mm nozzle and 0.2mm layer height. No raft, no support. Sliced in S3D.
Print with a minimum of 3 top, bottom and perimeter shells. (what is show on photos). For very strong pins, I recommend printing 4 or 5 layers for top, bottom and shells.
Strength is mostly due to the number of outer layers. I will print one with 3D infill to see how it holds.

This one took 20 minutes per piece. I would think it should take 30 minutes for a complete pin of both pieces are printed at the same time.

Post-Printing

just wrap one or more rubber bands around the thin section for the grip force required.

How I Designed This

Designed in Fusion 360. Used joint assembly and joint animation to get it right.

Category: Household
