Varia RCT715 old style cleat
thingiverse
The Garmin Varia RCT715 bicycle radar with camera uses a unique quick release attachment to the bike. It differs from other Varia radar models which use Garmin's standard quarter turn mount. Garmin probably made this change for various reasons: for strength, stability, reliability, etc. I have ignored all those quite rational reasons and made an adaptor so the new Varia radar can use the older mount. Why? Because those older mounts are less expensive than the new one, there are more variations of the old mount- either 3D printable or premade- and so I can use either an older or newer Varia without having to change out the mount. If you do use this part, I recommend either not using a rubber band style mount as pictured, or doubling up on the rubber bands both for redundancy and to hold the mount tighter so it and the Varia bounce around less. I also strongly recommend having some sort of tether to prevent the Varia from falling in case something breaks. The model has guides to hold the cords of a tether, but a tether can be attached in other ways in case there's a worry the cleat might completely break in half and lose the tether. The old cleat is attached to the Varia with a wide headed bolt. The problem is the 3mm Allen wrench hole can easily be rounded (Newer versions may use a Torx head bolt that might not be as soft). I needed to use a wrench to grasp the outside of the bolt head to loosen it enough so that the 3mm Allen wrench would not slip. A note about the model: I oversized the dimensions of the internal features to compensate for my printer's quirks. That dimension is the user parameter “kludgeOffset” in the Fusion360 file in case you want to adjust it to better match your machine. v2 is slightly oversize on the outer tabs so there's a more pronounced detent action, and it is a bit taller so the bolt doesn't rub on the ramped parts sticking up on the mount. You should be able to build this with supports only under the tabs on the sides. Maybe take a file to the top surface if it isn't flat enough- it really depends on your 3D printer.
