Valve Shim Tool for E46 M3
thingiverse
I designed a valve shim placement tool to simplify the process of adjusting my 2004 BMW E46 M3's valves after spotting a custom tool online that seemed too pricey, so I opted for a DIY solution using magnets and a 3D printer. I chose an 8mm x 3mm magnet with a 0.315" diameter and 0.118" height, which I embedded into the base during printing by stopping the layer at the right moment and inserting it. This was made possible by PrusaSlicer's color change feature. Both parts of the tool were printed in PETG, then glued together using cyanoacrylate. After testing the homemade tool on my engine, it worked flawlessly, even for the notoriously difficult-to-reach rear valves.
