I was wearing my dust/pollution mask to protect myself from COVID-19 when a membrane filter suddenly appeared, leading me to question the effectiveness of the valves that help me breathe out. When I used this system, I found two major issues: 1. The system wasn't entirely effective at preventing particles from entering my lungs. 2. On commercial models, the valves released air directly without any protection for others nearby. Given our current situation at home, I decided to design a new model that would address these problems. This project consists of six main components: 1. Top case: 2. Filter: I used charcoal filters from my ventilation system as a makeshift solution to prevent micro-particles from spreading outside. 3. Grid: This grid helps hold the filter in place, though it's not essential and can be adapted for other types of filters. 4. Main valve system: It includes a membrane attachment and mask connection. 5. Membrane: I printed this part using TPU and was pleased to find that it outperformed my commercial model! 6. Locker: This component secures the attachment on the mask. The entire system is clip-together, requiring no screws or glue - a convenient solution for me. Note: While I lack knowledge about virus and bacteria efficiency, this new design seems more effective than its predecessor.
