Valve Index VR gun stock paddle knuckles
thingiverse
Under the capacitive sensors in the Valve Index controller lies a pressure pad. Using a 3D printed 'paddle' designed specifically for this purpose, you can simulate the grip action in game by squeezing the paddle on the controller's pressure pad. By squeezing the paddle, you grasp onto the object in game as if you were gripping the controller without the paddle in place. Attached to a VR gunstock is a device that feels like a real firearm. A perpendicular to ground back hand simulates a rifle's pistol grip, and a front hand parallel to ground mimics holding a rifle foregrip. CURRENT DESIGN IS INADEQUATE!!! We need help designing an actual stock, with the design rights available for the community. If you're skilled at 3D modeling, please take on this challenge, as we aim to make this project open source for everyone! Paddle concepts could be utilized in various exciting situations. Paddles could be designed for joystick assemblies (such as those found in No Man's Sky) or the throttle action, a box, a lever, and the paddle for a DIY HOTAS setup. A whole racing wheel could be transformed into a paddle. Even a baseball bat paddle is feasible! Take the yet-to-be-released, soon-to-be-banned VR game "Piñatas Attack" to new heights! 1. Maybe applying capacitive material (aluminum foil tape) around the handles in three lines could simulate finger contact with the controller? 2. Incorporating honeycomb into the paddle design would allow fingers to squeeze through and make contact with the capacitive area on the controller. 3. A better connection to the stock bar requires a narrower beam that fits the contour of the paddle, allowing more space for fingers. The current approach is extremely uncomfortable. 4. Adjusting the back controller's angle to be more perpendicular to ground corrects the gun angle when holding it one-handed. 5. Angling the front controller more parallel to ground creates a feel similar to holding a foregrip on a gun. I will post a link to the design files below, but do not attempt to print them expecting a decent product. This first attempt was merely to prove that paddles work and
