Update: After 2 weeks of use I'm not entirely sure how I managed to use this VR device without some sort of airflow for as long as I did. I would suggest this, or something similar, as a must have upgrade for the Index. It pulls air through the nose region across your face. It did not dry my eyes out but there is the potential depending on how the airflow hits your face. Since installing this upgrade I have been able to play VR DCS: World for 6-8 hour sessions with no issue. A modified faceplate for the Valve Index to mount 2 x Noctua NF-A4x10 5v fans to pull hot air out.
