Valve Index Controllers: First Base V2

This is a simple, minimalistic base designed specifically for storage and charging of Valve's Index controllers. Measuring 3.625"W x 3.625"D x 2.5"H, it provides an ideal platform for keeping your controllers organized and ready to use. To ensure proper charging functionality, the correct USB-C magnetic cables must be used in conjunction with the base. These cables feature a small capsule-shaped flat tip that is placed into the Index Controller's charging ports and left in place. Next, the charging cable is carefully threaded through a slot at the bottom of each controller into its cradle area. Once above the cradle, the USB charging cable end is rotated 90 degrees and inserted back into the slot with the correct orientation matching the tip on the controllers. Excess cable is then tucked away into slots on the underside of the base unit to prevent it from being withdrawn when the controllers are lifted. To keep cables securely in place, a small drop of superglue can be applied once the cables have been properly inserted. This will prevent them from falling out of the channels or pulling up with the controllers. For those looking for an alternative cable option, Amazon offers two USB-C magnetic cable choices: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07HBZ3ZH9/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GSNBGHY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. To prevent the base from slipping on your worksurface or desk, I recommend using small hemispherical self-adhering rubber feet. This will elevate the base and allow the cables to run below it. However, if a more minimalist look is desired, the ends of the cable channel can be removed with a small 1/8" rat-tail file, sharp knife or soldering iron to allow the cables to exit through the back side of the base unit. The base can be used in two orientations: with the grips facing forward or the arcs on the sensor arms facing forward. The former reverses the handing on the controls, while the latter preserves it. It's worth noting that controllers cannot be inserted into the base without first removing them from your hands due to their design. One model of the base features a 1" diameter Index logo recess, which can be completed with laser-cut 1" diameter disks and 1" diameter hemicircles. The other base has a smooth front and back, allowing for paint or decals to be applied or easier printing. Per user requests, three logo options have been added: Logo_Flat, Logo_Hemisphere, and Logo_Lens. These can be printed separately and adhered into the recessed Valve Index logo space. Update 07152019: I'm currently working on a new base design that is more of a "holster" type, with controllers placed in a natural manner similar to how they are worn. If you're not satisfied with the current layout, stay tuned for this updated version.
