VAG 3199 camshaft lock tool for use on the D11 Audi V8 (PT/ABH) and C4 UrS4 (ABH) Please note: Use this tool at your own risk! Mistiming your camshafts can cause severe damage to the valvetrain and engine. This tool is used to keep the position of the camshafts when removing the timing belt on the early 32v Audi V8 engines. The exhaust cams are not keyed - instead this tool is used to hold them in place while the cam gear is tightened to a friction fit with the tapered camshaft ends. In proper use, this tool is not subjected to significant stress, and can be printed successfully with the right filament. Just be sure to use a separate tool to hold the cam sprocket when tightening/loosening the cam bolts, or the tools will break and your engine may be mistimed. The original parts in metal are not supposed to bear these loads either, but may be more forgiving if misused. I have verified the use of printed parts in conjunction with the original metal variants and found timing was spot on by interchanging one for the other without needing to move turn the cams at all. I successfully timed an ABH using PLA printed tools and checked it with the original tools; however, I would strongly suggest using a tougher material, as my test parts showed some wear at the cam contact area, which could potentially allow for slight timing offset. Functionally identical tool, but eliminated unnecessary overhang for ease of printing 3. +0.4mm on contact width for a tighter fit into the cams, no overhang Happ motoring!
