Vacuum Station Base
thingiverse
Having been inspired by a simple idea, I couldn't help but back this innovative project. In order to demonstrate its potential, I created my own proof-of-concept. As of June 18, 2013, the project is live and can be found at http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1066541019/thriftyvac. If you're impressed, show your support by backing the project. The latest update on June 19, 2013, includes improvements for better functionality. To use this concept, print the provided design and follow these steps: place the smaller piece on top of the larger one where the impressions match; acquire a vacuum pump, check valve, a large enough bag to house a smaller one for vacuum sealing, and a test item like half a lemon; poke a hole in the big bag for the vacuum station; attach the check valve to the hole to create an airtight seal. Once the air is vacuumed out of both bags, seal the inner bag. For best results, use double-zippered, sealable bags and purchase the vacuum pump and check valve from a reputable online retailer. If you like what you see, consider supporting this remarkable Kickstarter project!
