Vacuum relief valve

Vacuum relief valve

If you've built one of those DIY dust collection cyclones for your woodworking shop, you might have noticed that when the hose gets blocked, the vacuum inside the bucket becomes so strong it tries to collapse. I've watched several videos on YouTube where they created a very basic valve using a tin lid that drops into the bucket. It works but I didn't want to have to open the bucket and fish out the lid every time. So, I designed this vacuum relief (or suction release) valve to solve that problem. The idea is that the spring keeps the valve closed. When the vacuum inside the bucket gets too strong, the spring yields and the valve opens. And as soon as you remove the blockage or turn off the shop vac, the valve closes again. Using a simple nut and bolt to hold the spring in place allows you to adjust it as tight or loose as needed. https://youtu.be/SkkP0C4FNik
