Vacuum Guard / Hose Adapter
thingiverse
This is a customizer for making vacuum guards to prevent sucking up small parts. It can be used on it's own attached to the vacuum nozzle or an accessory can be attached on the other end. It can also make hose adapters without the honeycomb grid for attaching vacuum accessories to a hose with a diameter that's not compatible with the accessory. By default, the outer edges are filleted for comfortable handling. The cover image shows several examples, but only the three models in the front are included. They all fit a standard 1¼ inch vacuum hose and may be just what you need. If not, you can easily create your own customized model by setting some simple parameters with sliders. It's fully customizable and one of the images shows a screenshot with all the parameters that can be adjusted. Note that although the code refers to the end with the grid as the narrow end, it can be wider than the other end as shown by the blue, purple, and pink models. The blue and purple models also fit a standard 1¼ inch vacuum hose and have been included. The first photo shows my print in grey of the orange model in the cover image and a short test piece in white that I printed first to test the diameters. The second photo shows it between the vacuum nozzle and the brush attachment. It's a perfect fit between my 1¼ inch vacuum nozzles and accessories.Running the CustomizerClick the Customize button to create your own model on Thingiverse.Note that Thingiverse hadn't run their customizer queue from Jul 10, 2020 to Aug 4, 2022 and may stop running it at any time again. If you try to use it and your job is still sitting in the queue after several minutes, that probably means they stopped creating the customizer models again and your job is never going to be processed. It might just be really slow or may be only a temporary stoppage so check later or hope for the best and try again later. If they don't process your customized job, you will have to install and run OpenSCAD (free software) on your own computer to process the code to create your own customized models. See DrLex's instructions linked below for further details. How to Run Customizer on Your Own ComputerAs another alternative, there is a cloud based service at https://openscad.cloud/openscad/ that runs the code client-side in your browser. It doesn't support all OpenSCAD functionality so it's only useful for simple models such as this one, and even then it doesn't support using the customizer, so you'll have to modify the code to change the parameters. It has a decent interface and runs the code a bit slower than a local OpenSCAD installation.
