Vacuum Cleaner Castor Body
thingiverse
A castor that had seen its fair share of repairs finally met its match with a nasty fall down the stairs. It was beyond saving and had to be replaced. I pulled out the big guns: CAD software, calipers, and a 3D printer. With these tools, I managed to get our trusty vacuum cleaner back on its feet and rolling smoothly again. The latest version of Cura came in handy, as its "Roof" option allowed me to print complex horizontal parts with ease, even when printing them on their side. Next time, though, I'll make sure to print the part right-side up to maximize the strength of the pivot socket. This project can be scaled down or up for just about anything - except maybe the steel pivot pin and axle, which aren't worth modeling unless they break. The wheels, however, have seen better days and are still waiting to be replaced.
