Vacuum Bullet for DN50 pipe - hollow shell

Vacuum Bullet for DN50 pipe - hollow shell

thingiverse

On Mythbusters, a ping pong ball was propelled faster than the speed of sound, puncturing a ping pong bat. Inspired, we tried it at home using DN40 pipe in New Zealand, but found it too small for the 40mm ball; DN50 was too large. The solution: print your own hollow shell! Adjust the design's 0.3mm wall thickness to suit your printer, preferably 0.4mm. Trim the base slightly and it fits snugly in a DN50 pipe. Upon vacuum release, it looks cool but shatters on impact. This experiment reveals the ball's astonishing velocity!
