This is a modification of RichMac's Turbine rotary Tool that required a tool for milling molds out of refractory sand, with a focus on reducing dust and preventing particulate from entering the air. I sourced the bearings and shaft from McMaster-Carr, while the chuck came from Amazon, with links provided below. Using a metal lathe, I drilled a small hole in the end of the axle rod and turned down the hex on the chuck into a smaller diameter shaft that was pressed into the axle. It is likely that a more innovative solution exists, but I was under a time constraint and prioritized expediency. However, balancing the large mass of the chuck with the axle still presents a challenge, and the tool only operates true at certain rpms. To address this issue, I incorporated a series of small holes above the turbine blades to reduce vacuum pressure, thereby lowering the rpms of the tool. While this modification does not target a specific speed range, it helps refine the ideal running speed for optimal performance - further improvements are forthcoming. To assemble the Turbine rotary Tool: 1. Source the required parts: 3 bearings (6mm ID, 13mm OD, 5mm WD): http://www.mcmaster.com/#7804k113/=tyx2pu 1 rod (6mm): http://www.mcmaster.com/#5544t252/=tyx2z6 1 chuck (1/4" keyless chuck conversion for power tools): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007TCHKXW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 2. Print 2 Turbine Blade files and one copy of every other part. 3. Assemble the parts per the provided Rhino/Step file. I utilized some epoxy to secure the Chuck pin to the axle hole. The next variation will employ an ER11 Shank and collet system for improved performance and versatility.
