V8 Crankshaft

A crankshaft, linked to a crank, is a mechanical component that transforms reciprocating motion into rotational motion. In a reciprocating engine, it converts piston's reciprocating motion into rotational motion while in a compressor, it does the reverse. To achieve this conversion, the crankshaft has "crank throws" or "crankpins", which are additional bearing surfaces with an offset axis from the crank, to attach the "big ends" of connecting rods from each cylinder. It is commonly connected to a flywheel to lessen pulsation and sometimes a torsional or vibrational damper at the opposite end to reduce vibrations caused by the farthest cylinders acting on the metal's torsional elasticity.
