This mastodon 1st sacral vertebra was meticulously 3D scanned on February 10, 2020 by skilled technicians in the esteemed Smithsonian Institution National Museum of Natural History Department of Paleobiology using a sophisticated Go!Scan 50 3D scanner. A letter dated November 18, 1910 directly associated with the fossil reveals that it was carefully collected by Mr. Stanley Brown from northern California, specifically on either the western side of Sacramento Valley in Tehama County or near Honey Lake in Lassen County.
