V-twin air engine (modular)
thingiverse
I made a new design for my earlier engine concepts because people asked me to create a V8 version. Instead, I decided to build a dual valve head engine. This engine can be run in both single and V configurations. All parts are designed to be easily adaptable to inline 1-many or VTwin engines, but you may experience excessive crankshaft flexibility when building larger engines like V10s. I've completed the V-Twin version of this design, which runs smoothly and is more efficient than my previous designs. I'm curious to see who will be the first person to build a V8 engine using this design. Here are the parts needed for this project: Plastic components: * 3mm x 35mm bolts for cylinders * 3mm x 20mm bolts for crankcases * 2mm x 10mm bolts for tumblers and pistons * 2mm rods for crank and cam follower * 1mm rods for valves and pushrods Other components: * 6x15x5mm ball bearings (inner, outer, thickness) for crankshaft (2 per V-Twin) * 2x5x2mm bearings for conrods and cam follower (4 per cylinder) Additional parts include springs, rubber rings, and various other components. If you like this design, feel free to print it and send me some pictures! Update history: 2019-05-20: Updated head design 2019-06-08: Changed cylinder for easier fit and corrected minor crankcase fault 2019-06-10: Modified piston design for better fitment and changed crank lobes to accommodate hex nuts 2019-06-15: Updated head_base, increased thickness by 0.5mm; rods now require 40mm and 12mm lengths 2018-06-22: Completed updated crankcase, cam follower, and finished V8 design
