V-Slot routing jig for dewalt 611
thingiverse
I required Vslot rails for my openbuilds cnc machine, but I only had ISB and BSB style aluminium extrusions available, so I created a jig to machine V-slots with a 90-degree router bit. The picture shows an initial version of the router setup; I later added more length to the jig for better end and start stability. When using a V-bit, use the actual V-slot profile to adjust the cutting depth accurately. A visual guide demonstrates how close the cut is to the actual V-Slot profile. One practical note: it's best to make the first cut lower than the final one. This ensures a smoother surface finish. I have made many rails now and found that the most effective sequence is: - First, make a shallow cut to create an initial v-slot, then measure against the original V-slot. - Next, adjust the correct depth using the original V-slot as a reference. - Run the cut twice (don't forget to use cutting oil!). - Finally, apply fine-grade sandpaper to round the sharp edges of the top and bottom grooves - not the surface of the slot.
