V Scoop

My design utilizes V-shaped scoops to minimize the total amount of scoop area engaged at any point in time. The dimensions of my design are a full 450mm diameter and 360mm length. There are four V scoops on each drum, with each scoop boasting its own storage compartment for regolith. The collective volume of the four storage compartments will hold approximately 27 liters of regolith. The total volume of the design amounts to 81.09 cubic inches. I employed a weight calculator to determine that my design would weigh 3.59 kg if crafted from 6061 aluminum sheeting. The drum will be fabricated from 1/16 inch aluminum sheeting, and the panels that comprise the sides, guts, and exterior will be TIG welded together to form the bucket drum. I believe this design is viable and can be used in conjunction with other bucket drum designs that have already been submitted. The RASSOR vehicle will feature one drum at each end, with the two drums rotating in opposite directions. In terms of fill ratio, the compartments for each scoop should be capable of filling 100% capacity. Overall, I am confident that the V-shaped scoops of my design set it apart from other submissions in the competition. It meets all of the design requirements and serves as a solid starting point and concept for consideration within the RASSOR project. The V-shaped scoops reduce stress on the drums by minimizing the area of scoop engagement at any given time. In these respects, I firmly believe that my design satisfies all judging requirements and design specifications.
