This is my scale model of the V-2 rocket's A-8 variant. The V-2 was the world's first vehicle capable of reaching outer space, with a maximum recorded altitude of 206 kilometers or 128 miles. There is a somber side to this rocket, however - it played a devastating role in World War II, claiming thousands of lives. Yet its impact also sparked an insatiable interest in space exploration among many people, including its brilliant designer, Wernher Von Braun.
