v.2: Double sided robust and reliable XY Idlers Mount for Hypercube Evolution
thingiverse
This is v2. It employs square nuts and other screw lengths to achieve its purpose. This design choice led to it becoming a standalone creation. It still draws from a very intelligent part's DNA. Printing idlers upright makes them remarkably sturdy, as forces exerted by pulleys are not confined between layers. For further insight into this design's superiority, refer to the original part by brunofporto – they offer a more detailed explanation than I can provide. This remix is designed to secure an idler on two sides of the 3030 frame and accommodate a 10mm rod. The concept revolves around using square nuts instead of conventional hexagonal nuts. Square nuts are larger in size and do not rotate within the hole, resulting in a tighter fit. A nyloc nylon locking hexagonal nut is used in the middle hole. A crucial modification involves inserting a 50mm M3 screw in the center to hold the idlers firmly in place, significantly enhancing stability. There still remains 6mm of clearance to accommodate a nyloc nut without overtightening. You can also use a tap or drill the 3mm holes to easily fit the M3 screw. To complete this setup, create two separate parts: one standard and its mirrored counterpart on the Z-axis for each idler configuration. The part lacking a groove is designed to fit over hidden L brackets within the 3030 corners, typically situated on top. In contrast, the part with a groove is intended for the bottom where inserts are less common.
