Period/Epoch: Quaternary / Holocene Rock Formation: None Country: Africa Taxonomy: Mammalia>Artiodactyla>Giraffidae>Giraffa Giraffas, commonly referred to as giraffes, comprise a genus of even-toed ungulates native to modern-day Africa. The fossil record for giraffes dates back to the Miocene era in Eurasia and Africa, showcasing an ongoing process of lengthening neck vertebrae throughout their evolutionary history. It's plausible that the direct ancestor to contemporary giraffas originated in Asia, migrating to Africa in response to shifting climate conditions. Their closest relative is the okapi, another even-toed ungulate native to Central Africa. This specimen displays a complete skull of the animal. Scanned with the David SLS-2 scanner
