In concurrent to the Covid-19 pandemic worldwide in 2020, medical front-liners are in short of face shield that should be use on top of the surgical mask or mask N95. Presented is a face shield, UTMShield, developed fully in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, by Dr Mohd Najeb Jamaludin, a research fellow in the Sports, Innovation and Technology Center, SITC. Watch, demo video here, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhihTnjgnUc Upon complete printing this UTMShield frame, the thin protective plastic can be inserted directly into it without using additional tools. The frame also secures the protective plastic sheet firmly, and the plastic sheet can easily be removed easily with little effort so that it can be disposed with minimal handling of covid-19 contaminated sheet. When wearing the UTMShield, the plastic sheet pressed securely to the cheek area, thereby reducing chances of external exposure to airborne contamination. The design of UTMShield minimizes sharp curves and enhances the ability to clean the UTMShield frame more effectively. Sanitization of the UTMShield using alcohol mix or high temperature requires suitable 3D printing filaments that withstands chemical solutions and high temperature. The intention of this share is to enable the benefits of the UTMShield reach the front-liners worldwide as and essentials tool in fighting Covid-19.
