First, I wanted to fix a knife that I owned, (I had lost the slider).\r\n\r\nhttps://www.thingiverse.com/thing:764733\r\n\r\nHowever, I faced space limitations. To accommodate my old Olfa knife, I designed a part that would fit it perfectly. But when I tried to add sturdiness, the design became too thick. Then, I had an idea - why not redesign the entire knife?\r\n\r\nI attempted several designs, and here is my best result so far.\r\n\r\nTo create this knife, you will need:\r\n\r\n- A 1/4-20 bolt and nut (as short as possible, mine was too long and had to be cut)\r\n- 25mm 1in 0.7mm thickness blades, similar to those found on an Olfa knife.\r\n\r\nI've included two versions of my design. One is a near-perfect replica of the original body, but unfortunately, I'm unable to print it due to space constraints. If you're an astronaut in space right now, feel free to print it and let me know if it works!\r\n\r\nThe second version, with bridges, is specifically designed for printing on Earth and is optimized for the given parameters.\r\n\r\nTo achieve the best results, follow these settings:\r\n\r\n1. First layer: 0.35mm thickness\r\n2. All other layers: 0.25mm thickness\r\n3. Ensure your printer excels at printing bridges (a fan is highly recommended)\r\n\r\nBefore printing, take a look at the layer view to ensure the bridges are oriented correctly. I've included an image for comparison; check layer 3 and 6 to see if they match mine.\r\n\r\nThe printed bridges will serve as supports for subsequent layers. Once complete, you can easily remove them using a utility knife (I hope you have one on hand).\r\n\r\nNote that there is a small hole at the top - it's there to create an empty volume inside.\r\n\r\nI hope you'll find this design helpful and enjoy using your new knife!\r\n\r\nPlease be careful not to cut yourself when inserting the first blade.\r\n\r\nSorry for the poor video quality.\r\n\r\nTo remove the support bridges, watch this tutorial:\r\n\r\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pP1xhY44O4M\r\n\r\nThe final result is here:\r\n\r\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gtD_f-hs9Y\r\n\r\nJean-Luc\r\n\r\nApril 2019 Update: My knife finally broke, so I reinforced the broken area. I also enlarged the slot to make it easier to fit and slide the blade. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to reedit an updated version without bridges. If needed, ask me, and I'll create one.\r\n\r\n
