Utah Red Sandstone
sketchfab
This rugged terrain unfolds in a crimson-hued sandstone slot canyon, once a part of Bears Ears National Monument. Calf Creek flows steadily at the bottom, squeezing the narrow trail to an almost impossible width. Even in times of high water, this rock face remains unyielding, its ancient layers worn away by erosion according to the stone's innate hardness - possibly influenced by the presence of clay or the size of particles carried here when deposited in a long-forgotten sea. The sand is bound together with dissolved and redeposited limestone (calcite), visible as white streaks on the surface that seep from the rock face along with the water.
