Known as the Aegis cruiser due to its first-of-its-kind weapons control system, the Ticonderoga Class was initially a modified Spruance Class, later reclassified as a Guided Missile Cruiser with the integration of the Aegis System. From the 1970s through the early '90s, 28 of these vessels were built, with subsequent variants boasting upgraded electronics, superstructure, and missile launch systems.
