The USS Pampanito (SS-383/AGSS-383), a Balao-class submarine, was a highly valued United States Navy ship named after the prized pompano fish. From 1944 to 1945, this fearless vessel completed six daring war patrols. Later, she played a crucial role as a Naval Reserve Training ship from 1960 to 1971. Today, she stands proudly as a National Historic Landmark and an unforgettable museum ship within the San Francisco Maritime National Park Association at Fisherman's Wharf.
