The Fletcher-class destroyer was a type of warship that played a significant role during World War II. These ships were commissioned by the United States Navy between 1941 and 1945, and they went on to serve as some of the most effective destroyers in the Allied fleet. Initially designed with a focus on anti-submarine warfare, Fletcher-class destroyers featured four main gun mounts, each housing a five-inch caliber deck gun. Additionally, these ships were equipped with ten 21-inch torpedo tubes and six 40mm Bofors anti-aircraft guns. The destroyer's firepower was supplemented by two depth charge racks and one Hedgehog anti-submarine mortar. The Fletcher-class destroyers were known for their impressive speed, reaching up to 37 knots in ideal conditions. Their length ranged from approximately 375 to 390 feet, with a beam of around 39-40 feet. Standard displacement varied between 2,200 and 3,000 tons, depending on the specific model. A total of 175 Fletcher-class destroyers were constructed during World War II.
