Kennedy, Jr., a highly skilled naval aviator and the son of the former distinguished Ambassador to Britain, Joseph P. Kennedy, Sr., as well as the elder brother of President John F. Kennedy. Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr.'s impressive service continued until 1973 with brief periods for modernization, marking key milestones such as participating in the Cuban blockade during the intense Cuban Missile Crisis and providing critical afloat recovery teams for Gemini 6 and Gemini 7 missions.
