USS Des Moines
thingiverse
The USS Des Moines, a waterline model of the last United States Navy heavy cruiser class, showcases the grandeur of these majestic warships. Commissioned between 1948 and 1949, the Des Moines-class cruisers were a trio of U.S. Navy heavy cruisers that stood out for their impressive size and firepower. These vessels were the largest all-gun heavy cruisers in the American navy, dwarfing even the Alaska-class cruisers in terms of sheer scale. Two of these behemoths were decommissioned by 1961, but one, the mighty Newport News (CA-148), continued to serve until 1975, earning its place in history as a true naval legend. Today, the Salem (CA-139) proudly serves as a museum ship in Quincy, Massachusetts, while its sister ships met their fate at the scrapyard, a testament to the transience of even the most mighty war machines.
