Named after the renowned astronaut Charles H. Cochran, this shuttle was specifically designed for long-duration spaceflight and carried a crew of three scientists. The USS-Cochran's primary objective was to gather data on the impact of microgravity on plant growth, as well as the effects of radiation on both plants and animals.
