USMC Infantry Company Weapon Range Ring Compass
cults3d
Range Rings represent the maximum effective range of a particular weapon system, and are often drawn on maps during the process to let the planner know how far they need to be in order to prevent unnecessary casualties, or how close they need to be in order to employ weapon systems. When used to represent enemy ranges, they are often referred to as "threat rings". This particular compass is designed to a USMC infantry company and below, including the range of some common supporting/attached assets at the battalion level. It's important to note that for explosive munitions, this represents the range they can reach, NOT the radius of the blast. Designed for a 1:50,000 scale map, due to similar sizes of many small arms, all platoon organic weapons are lumped into a single ring at 500m. Weapons represented include: -Infantry Rifle Platoon (M16/M4/M27/M72/M9/LAW all included in this range ring) -M240 Bipod-Mounted -60mm Mortar Handheld Fire -MK-19 -M240 Tripod-Mounted -M2 Browning -60mm Mortar Conventional Fire -81mm Mortar RP Rounds -81mm Mortar HE Rounds This compass was designed for use with the standard map pens, and can easily be carried in the inner-pocket of the RitenRain squad leader's notebook cover. Comes with a straightedge on the side presenting 6000m broken down into 100m increments. Simply line up the hole in the thumb groove with a position on the map and hold in place with a finger, insert your map pen into the hole of the weapon's ring you wish to represent, and spin...viola, accurate range ring! Update 11 Sept: Origin hole moved to right edge for accurate distance. Original center placement resulted in measurements being slightly too long. Hole also widened for easier viewing of starting point and to allow for being held in place by a ballpoint pen.
