Useless Machine (trammel of archimedes)
thingiverse
This is a model of the trammel of Archimedes. A pen placed at the handle would draw a perfect ellipse with ease. Watching it move is oddly satisfying, and I'm eager to see the finished product. For now, I'm experimenting with different print settings. I imagine using standard infill for the base, slider, and screws, while opting for a higher (20%) density for the handle. It would be great to see someone successfully assemble this model. PRINT 1 body PRINT 1 handle PRINT 3 sliders PRINT 3 "bolts" Print Settings: Printer Brand: MakerBot Printer: MakerBot Replicator Rafts: No Supports: No Infill: 20% Notes: With around 20% infill, parts might need sanding for a precise fit. The bolts require glue to hold in place during assembly. I recommend printing at a 25% scale.
