Useless Box
thingiverse
The Useless Box, which has been showcased on Make Magazine (http://blog.makezine.com/archive/2010/01/leave_me_alone_box.html), has also appeared in various other instructables and YouTube videos. We've designed this box and mechanism to be easily built by anyone with a laser. New assembly documentation is available on our kit page under "resources" at http://www.solarbotics.com/products/60005/resources/. An update: it has been discovered that super loose hinges aren't necessary for the box to work properly; any decent small hinge will suffice. The required materials include 3mm Acrylic (avoid clear acrylic), 60W Helix settings at 20 speed/100 power, and assembling with 4-40 x 3/8" hardware. The parts list includes a motor set, double-pole double-throw power switch, single-pole double-throw retract limit switch, 4-conductor ribbon wire, a 2xAA battery pack, double-sided sticky tape, four miniature hinges, four rubber feet, two #4 x 1/2" motor-mounting screws, five #2-32 x 3/8" limit switch/finger mounting screws, one #2 x 1/4" and #2 washer set for the accessory wheel, and twenty-two #4 x 3/8" bolts and nuts.
